This simple fix 2.4x'd our YouTube video views

(it will surprise you)

Hi there - It's Rory.

I want you to look at the screenshot below:

My client and I got 2.4x more views on this video by making one simple change.

  • Channel average: 70k views.

  •  This video: 171k views.

And no, this wasn't a one off.

Using the same change, we were able to get 2.1x more views on this video as well.

Let me show you how.

Your videos are too short

The change was simple.

We made our videos longer.

Instead of posting a 10-15-minute video (which is what we normally do), we posted a 45-minute video.

Over 3x longer.

And the views speak for themselves.

But this wasn't something I've only noticed with our channel. This was something I've noticed across many channels.

Charlie Morgan:

  • Before: Posting 10-15 min videos - averaging 5-10k views.

  • After: Posting 45-60 min videos - averaging 150-300k views.

MashtagBrady:

  • Before: Posting 10-15 min videos - averaging 60-100k views.

  • After: Posting 25+ min videos - averaging 600k+ views.

MrBeast:

m

Even MrBeast has gone from posting 10-15 min videos to now posting 20-30+ min videos.

If anyone will notice a change in YouTube, it's him.

So why are creators doing this?

And why should you be doing this?

Let me explain.

YouTube is the new TV

TV is the primary device for watching YouTube in the U.S., with viewers watching more than 1 billion hours of content every day.

And with the rise of smart TVs, this number will only go up.

And it's clear YouTube wants more people to be watching on TV as they've redesigned the TV app to improve the viewing experience.

Why does this mean you should be creating longer videos?

Unlike mobile viewers who might jump between videos, TV viewers are settling in, often watching with family or while eating dinner. Just like they would with Netflix.

They don't want a 5-minute video that ends before they've even gotten comfortable.

They want longer, immersive content.

Deep dives, engaging storytelling, or content they can keep on in the background.

This was evident in our video as we saw a huge increase in the number of TV viewers.

Longer watch time

Here's what I've noticed:

Watch time length is more important than watch time percentage.

Let me explain:

A 30 minute video with a 30% watch time (9 minutes) is better than an 8 minute video with 70% watch time (5 min 36 secs).

Why?

A 9-minute watch time means you're staying on the platform longer, which YouTube wants.

Builds a deeper connection

When someone spends 15-30+ minutes watching your content, they're investing in you, not just your videos.

They start to feel like they know you.

They trust you.

And that trust is what turns casual viewers into loyal fans who come back for every upload.

Think about your own habits:

Do you feel more connected to a YouTuber after watching a 5-minute clip or after investing 30 minutes in their content?

If you want an audience that sticks around, longer videos aren't just an algorithm hack.

They're how you build a real community.

I'm looking for 3 YouTubers who want to kill it in 2025.

We will work 1-on-1 together to transform your channel and help you reach your first 10K subscribers, the right way.

I'm talking about building a real community of subscribers.

Not shallow, disloyal viewers.

But I'm only accepting creators who are serious about growing on YouTube.

If you're interested, reply to this email with your channel link and I will personally reach out to you.

This opportunity closes on March 30th.

Thank you for reading.

See you next Sunday,

Rory "make longer videos" Marles
